Zimbabwe Rural Renovation Project

PART I:

PART II:

This is my Economics Development Project. The aim of my project, and what I hope would happen as a result of my proposal, is the renovation of rural areas. In other words, creating incentive for rellocation back into the rural areas and create an even spread of population throughout the country. Currenty, some of the urban areas of Zimbabwe are overpopulated, consequently leading to the formation of dense townships. In these, people are susceptible to crime, health risks and unemployment. In some cases, urbanisation is a sign of beneficial development, but in the case of Zimbabwe, it has caused the demand for employment, energy and basic neccessities to plummet. The supply of these has not managed to meet the demand. Thus, by renovating the rural areas through installation of effective irrigation systems (hydro and solar), we are able to tackle many problems Zimbabwe faces. This project, if successful, could urbanise rural areas, provide employment opportunities, increase agricultural productivity and improve health.

I elaborate more on this in my presentation, enjoy!

Pakistan Development Project - Tim Beatrix

Pakistan is located in southern Asia, between India on the east and Iran and Afghanistan on the west as well as China on the north. My development project is aimed to increase the standard of living in Pakistan as well as reduce the exploitation of their natural resources by multinational companies. The exploitation of natural resources is one of the largest obstacles to development due to the low level of technology available as well as the lack of infrastructure in Pakistan. My development project is aimed to overcome these challenges and enable Pakistan to become a developed country through a greater amount and variety of exports.

I investigated the problems I thought were most important in  Burkina Faso, the high dependency ratio, Malaria, single crop dependency and the low GDP per capita.

Yemen Development Project Nick

Yemen is a country that by almost any metric is the worst in the Middle East. My development project is aimed at increasing the education of Yemeni children, and thus increasing the quality of human capital and shifting the economy away from its detrimental agricultural roots. Also worrying is the nation's dependence on oil reserves that very soon will run out, leaving behind only about 30% of government revenue and taking a huge chunk out of the GDP of the nation. Education is sporadic in Yemen and there is not enough incentive for the roughly 40% poor population to keep sending their kids to school. Furthermore, these schools are under supplied. My first proposal is to seek funding to stipend poverty-stricken children's education and to pay teachers. The second proposal is to bring about structural changes to the government in order to foster higher education and lower school dropout rates.

Haiti Development Project- David

My development project was created to help the people in Haiti. The first proposal I have made is to concentrate to increase education and the quality of education. My second proposal is aimed to increase the water supply and the accesss to water in all areas. This should lead the unemployment rate to decrease and improve health and education. Here is my presentation:
